Fatuma was born to parents from two warring tribes in Kenya. After becoming the first woman from Marsabit to obtain a law degree, she returned to her homeland. In 2003, she founded Horn of Africa Development Initiative (HODI), winning NGO of the Year at the 2017 Peace and Sport Awards. Fatuma received the Stuttgart Peace Prize in 2011, the Vital Voices Fellowship in 2014, and the Beyond Sport Award in 2015. In 2012, Fatuma was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and in 2018 she received the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneurship Award. She is a Board member of Streetfootball world.
