Zahra is the first figure skater from the UAE and the first hijab-wearing competitor globally. She was included in the famous Nike advert that aired in the Middle East featuring Arab women across a variety of sports. Judges at a competition in 2012 deducted a point for what was considered an “outfit violation” and she subsequently successfully campaigned for a change to the regulations.
