Zahra is the first figure skater from the UAE and the first hijab-wearing competitor globally. She was included in the famous Nike advert that aired in the Middle East featuring Arab women across a variety of sports. Judges at a competition in 2012 deducted a point for what was considered an “outfit violation” and she subsequently successfully campaigned for a change to the regulations. She is a five-time Emirati national champion and has competed at the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia and is the first Emirati to compete in the Winter Universiade. A documentary about Lari, Ice Princess, is under production which highlights. She is a member of the board- Emirates Skating Club and is leading the #DreamBigPrincess campaign to empower women in sport in the Middle East and beyond.
